The show in Portland was good. It was at a venue called the Someday Lounge. When we walked in, I figured it was the wrong place or we were in for some trouble. It was the sort of place that was likely to serve ‘blue drinks’ and whose clientele might have little interest in bizarre music.
Turns out, this was a new venue with funding from the city to put on jazz and experimental shows. Huge stage, nice PA and if you can believe it, a backstage dressing room complete with shower and changing room – for experimental music. The stage manager (for experimental music) even served us a bottle of decent red wine and a barrel of some cheap german-stye beer, which horrified Rob whose taste runs more towards Belgian Trappist monk creations. PLUS, I got to take some cool photos though a glass head figure like the one above.
Rob and Dave did a great set. I followed with something along the lines of a good set. My hi E string broke withing 10 seconds of starting, but considering the style of music being done, not such a liability. Go with the flow…
My longtime friends Michael Porter and his pop, Erf Porter were there. Challenging listening for them, I imagine, but they were troopers and stayed to the end.
