October Ivy Room Improv Hoot

October 27 saw another great Ivy Room improv/experimental hootenanny and social club session.

The featured act was Pluto performing with all its original members (David Slusser – keyboards, woodwinds, Ralph Carney – horns, Len Paterson – guitar, electronics, Ellen Schoenwetter – bass, Steve Clarke – guitar, trumpet, Marc Weinstein – drums and Ken Kearny – misc, erhu, tv) for the first time in 15 years.

Not a reunion but a return to the original. An amazing hour set complete with the wild film projections by Keith Arnold. When the cartoons started there was no stopping Ralph. Cartoons & Carney = Crazy.

Shorter sets were curated by Jeff Hobbs, Reid Johnston, Michael Zbyszynski and Jonathan Segel, whose cool guitar/noise set was interrupted – nay elevated by his amp (actually Victor Krummenacher‘s) crashing to the ground.

Incredible photo of JS and VK’s amp in transit by Michael Zelner.

The next hoot is Mon. November 24 and features Rent Romus‘ Lords of Outland.
